Vintage Copper Brass Rose Gold Mixed Media Framed Assemblage Collage N Angele Caron by Roger Wood #93-11 This is a delightful collage of copper, brass, tin (?) silver tone metal and a wee bit of rose gold in the form of a small medalion. Framed in a black and gold wood frame it measures 5.5" x 7.5" (b.1942, Fredericton, NB) Roger Wood is a self-taught artist who lives and works in a former flower shop in Hamilton, Ontario. A regular at yard sales and flea markets, he collects odd, forlorn, mysterious, intriguing, usually weathered artifacts - things with a history. There are several hundred boxes and drawers now, brimming with found objects. Nothing is safe or sacred - his entire studio/home and even his garden have become a large environmental assemblage. He specializes in eccentric clocks that he crafts one at a time. Their whimsical nature reflects his belief in the importance of play and childlike wonder in a world that is too often serious and too seemingly chaotic Mr Wood has an impressive list of Select Exhibitions, Group Exhibitions and Awards. I was very fortunate to find this very EARLY Roger Wood in a dusty corner of my local antiques & collectibles shop. After a bit of research I determined that it just HAD to be the Canadian Roger Wood who has his workshop/gallery in Hamilton, Ontario. When I emailed Mr Wood, he confirmed that yes, this was a early work and had me send pics to him so that he could 'remember' it. And when he saw them, YES, he remembered creating it. As mentioned, this has been 'kicking around' various local areas - personal collectors, then the antique store, where it has been for a few years. It does show some ravages from being picked up by dozens of people, dropped (probably) by a few more. There is a ding in the bottom of the frame and some paint chips elsewhere. There is a patina of age on the copper collage itself (unless applied originally by Mr Wood). If you purchase this treasure, please do not expect PERFECT. This is not that type of art. Accept it for what it is - it is DELIGHTFUL! Pick up is in Fenwick. Note that if being shipped or picked up by courier, I accept funds (in advance) by only paypal or e transfer.
